Rev. I.Jesudasan, the pastor with real parish experience was the right hoice of the people of the South Kerala Diocese to be elevated as their Bishop in 1973 to succeed Bishop William Paul Vachalan. Prior to his elevation as the Bishop, Rev. I. Jesudasan was Principal of Kerala United Theological Seminary, Kannanmoola, Trivandrum and Vice Chairman of the Diocese.
He was elected Deputy Moderator of the Church of South India in 1980 and Moderator in 1982. He was re-elected thereafter as the Moderator for two more successive terms. He served as member of the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches. Honorary doctorate in divinity was confired on him in 1988.He retired from the bishopric of the Diocese in 1990.
Bishop Jesudasan is known for his piety, loftiness of thoughts and deeds. His simple life-style is legendary. He is an inspiring leader of the people and the clergy. He achieved many firsts for the Diocese during his tenure as its Bishop. He addressed problems with tact and resilience. He is a voracious reader and a scholarly theologian. He has a compelling care for the marginalised. He is a father-figure for the people of the Diocese. Bishop Jesudasan is held in high esteem by Bishops, clergy and people of sister churches also. The public, including political and cultural leaders of the State, consider Bishop Jesudasan as a beacon of moral authority, as he has a blemishless and transparent life.
This parish nurtures very special relationship with Bishop Jesudasan even after his retirement that happened 20 years ago. May God grant this great pastor special blessings for a long and fruitful life.
